The latest issue of Schriften zur Malakozoologie aus dem Haus der Natur – Cismar includes five articles, three of which deal with new species. This makes issue 29 [May 2016] almost a Scaphopoda-special (only 2 other articles are included).
These five articles are the result of the “3rd European workshop on scaphopod molluscs“. The issue was published just in time for the 4th workshop which was held in Haus der Natur – Cismar, Germany, at the time of writing.
Please find both titles and abstracts below. Should you be interested in acquiring this issue (€ 12,50 excl. shipping costs) or elder issues of Schriften zur Malakozoologie, please note they can be ordered by a simple mail to info@hausdernatur.de.
SAHLMANN, B. & V. WIESE (2016): The true Fissidentalium (Compressidentalium) hungerfordi (Pilsbry & Sharp 1897) (Mollusca: Scaphopoda). Schriften zur Malakozoologie aus dem Haus der Natur – Cismar, 29: 7-18, plates 1-8.
ABSTRACT: A number of specimens related to Fissidentalium (Compressidentalium) hungerfordi (PILSBRY & SHARP 1897) are analysed and the shells compared with the original diagnoses and pictures of the types located in The Natural History Museum London. Detailed measurements reveal the characteristic features of the true F. hungerfordi.
SAHLMANN, B., J. VAN DER BEEK & V. WIESE (2016): Fissidentalium (Compressidentalium) pseudohungerfordi n. sp., a well known undescribed scaphopod in the group of Fissidentalium (Compressidentalium) hungerfordi (Pilsbry & Sharp 1897) (Mollusca: Scaphopoda). Schriften zur Malakozoologie aus dem Haus der Natur – Cismar, 29: 19-32, plates 9-19.
ABSTRACT: A huge number of shells belonging to the group which traditionally was called Fissidentalium (Compressidentalium) hungerfordi (PILSBRY & SHARP 1897) was analysed. By comparison with the original diagnoses and pictures of the types three species were distinguished of which one was discovered to be unknown. Most of the specimens studied belong to this new species Fissidentalium (Compressidentalium) pseudohungerfordi n.sp. which can easily be distinguished by the lower number of ribs. Only shells from the South China Seas and some from Japanese waters could be assigned to F. hungerfordi.
